The aim of this course is to develop your theoretical and practical knowledge of Sport through working towards a Level 3 nationally recognised qualification. The course is also designed to prepare you for higher education in a sports related subject or a career in the area of Sport. You will cover 18 units in total over the two year, full-time course. Some examples of the units you will study are: Year 1 • Anatomy, Physiology of Fitness, Talent ID, Sports Injuries, Fitness Training, Current Issues, Fitness Testing and Practical Sports. Year 2 • Analysis of Sport Performance, Sports as a Business, Nutrition, Coaching, Sports Massage, Work Experience in Sport, Instructing Physical Activity. Alongside your course you will study English and/or Maths to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured classes, as well as having your English and Maths assessed in all of your work throughout your course. Your lessons will take place in classrooms, sports facilities (indoor/outdoor) and in the sports laboratory. In addition to the course you may also have the opportunity to complete Sports Therapy, Sports Leaders and Level 1 Coaching Qualifications. There is also a work experience unit in the second year during which you can gain an insight into working in the sports industry e.g. Physiotherapists, Fitness Instructors, Sports Physiologists, Sports Teachers.
